Discover how HUAV improves emergency care management with Mediktor

The Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital (HUAV), the main public health hospital in the province of Lleida, faced a growing challenge: nearly 50% of emergency visits were non-urgent (triage levels IV and V). This overcrowding strained resources, delayed urgent consultations, and highlighted the need to better guide patients to the appropriate level of care.

To solve this, HUAV implemented Mediktor’s AI-based solution to support a reverse referral process.

After initial triage by nurses, patients with lower urgency levels (IV and V) could use Mediktor to assess their symptoms and receive a recommendation: stay at HUAV or go to the CUAP Primary Emergency Care Centre.

This ensured patients received the same quality care in less time, while relieving pressure on the emergency department.

The results were clear:

• 427 patients participated in the proof of concept.

• 56.4% were advised to stay at HUAV.

• 43.6% were advised to go to CUAP — and more than 90% followed the recommendation.
